The Fire Inserts whole cast iron body is raw and has never been blackened before ( or painted ). Its presentation is very neat and tidy. It could be reinstalled exactly as is right now. The main decorative hood on the front of the fire insert is solid cast iron. Each side of the fire insert has tiles. There is one larger decorative tile on both sides of the fire insert. All the tiles are original and have that unique crackle look in the glaze. They look fantastic! The fire insert is sized at: 951mm wide x 946mm high. The back of the fire insert has the markings “G&K NO.6” It also comes with its original cast iron draught flap which opens and closes smoothly. What’s wrong with this fire insert? On the right hand side of the fire insert the second top tile has a hairline crack running through it. The tile is still really solid and doesn’t move when you touch it but from a cosmetic viewpoint you do notice it. The fire brick at the back of the insert has many cracks on the front face.
